This decrease in GCLC and GCLM RNA levels was coupled with a decrease in NRF2 activity (Additional file5: Figure S4B) under lactic acidosis, suggesting that acidosis (and/or lactic acidosis) decouples the reduced glutathione synthesis from glutaminolysis via inhibition of NRF2-regulated transcriptional activity. Here, NFE2L2 is linked to lactic acidosis.
