Notably, HNSCC patients carrying tumors with methylated versions of CCNA1 and TIMP3 genes experienced an increased probability of developing SPT in comparison to patients whose tumors presented unmethylated versions of these two genes (CCNA1: 38.0% methylated vs. 2.2% unmethylated, p = 0.001; and TIMP3: 25.1% methylated vs. 0% unmethylated, p = 0.007; log-rank test; Figure 2). This evidence concerns the gene CCNA1 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
