In addition to the traditional clinical parameters (size, grade and node status) and pathological markers (ER, PR and HER2 status), breast cancer can be classified into at least 5 ‘intrinsic’ subtypes (Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-enriched, Basal-like, Normal-like) that were derived from a hierarchical clustering analysis of expression profiles of human breast tumors [1], [2].
