These TLR4 SNPs have been related to a blunted response to LPS and to susceptibility to infectious diseases and sepsis [20], [21], and they are associated with protection against hepatic fibrosis, reduce TLR4-mediated inflammatory and fibrogenic signaling, and lower the apoptotic threshold of activated hepatic stellate cells [22].
