GCLC and cancer: Moreover, using pathway and network analysis (bioprofiling.de R_Spider; [18]), we found the ‘Glutathione metabolism’ pathway among the genes highly expressed in cancers (11 genes; p=0.01) with a specific sub-group of 9 genes (p<0.005) whose products are known to interact with one another, such as glutamate cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) and glutamate cysteine ligase modifier subunit (GCLM) (Figure 2A)[19].
