The major neutrophil chemoattractants are CXC chemokines, including CXCL1 (GRO-α), CXCL5 (ENA78) and CXCL8 (interleukin-8), all of which are increased in concentration in bronchoalveolar lavage of patients with COPD, severe asthma and CF [3-9]. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL1 and cystic fibrosis.
