Although the authors equated regions of RNA folding with RIG-I activation, the genome of dengue is essentially unstructured in either sense or antisense orientation (mean MFED values for types 1–4 of 1.6% and 0.6%, respectively) and indeed most fragments appeared to reproduce the phenotype of unstructured RNAs in the current study (Figure 6).
