Tumor invasion has many similarities to EMT, such as loss of adhesion within the tissue, decreased E-cadherin expression, which plays a key role in the cell-to-cell adhesion, and increased cell motility.32 A study conducted by Majima et al33 revealed a significant downregulation of E-cadherin in invasive and metastatic BCC compared with noninvasive nodular BCC. The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is skin basal cell carcinoma.
