Liu et al. [61] showed that fucoxanthin pretreatment attenuated the cisplatin-induced DNA-binding activity of NF-κB, restored cisplatin-inhibited IκB-α-phosphorylation, and increased the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 mRNA expression rendering cancer cells sensitive to apoptosis induced by cisplatin, which suggested that fucoxanthin may be an NF-κB inhibitor. This evidence concerns the gene NFKB1 and cancer.
