A large recent multicentric study including clinical and histological data from 1726 subjects have demonstrated a strong association between the presence of lymphocytic foci on the affected minor salivary glands and serological parameters (higher titers of ANF, RF, anti-Ro and anti-La) and a weak correlation with subjective parameters, such as xerostomia and xerophthalmia (9). The gene discussed is CALR; the disease is xerostomia.
