To date, the precise etiology of IBD has not been elucidated, but it is now widely accepted that an inadequate activation of CD4+ T helper 1, Th 2 and Th 17 immune cells cause an imbalance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, which plays a crucial role in IBD pathogenesis [7,8]. The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
