While the significant increase in IFNγ between pre-ART and IRIS event in our study supports this, the fact that IFNγ levels during ART were not significantly different between our study groups still suggests that the innate immune system is responsible for the bulk of the inflammation during TB-IRIS, as is reflected by elevated IL-6 plasma concentrations among other innate cytokines. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is tuberculosis.
