miR-224 was recently shown to target Raf kinase inhibitor protein (RKIP), a tumor suppressor that protects against metastasis and genomic instability, and to have a positive effect on Transwell migration, 3D growth in Matrigel, and wound healing in breast cancer cell lines, probably through RKIP target genes, notably MMP1 (Huang et al., 2012). This evidence concerns the gene PEBP1 and neoplasm.
