Since many different stimuli for the activation of cells are responsible for microparticle release like the early phase of apoptosis, Ca2+-ions, phorbol esters, cytokines, complement factor C5a, C-reactive protein and high concentrations of ATP 16–37, it is not surprising that several diseases linked to a misguided immune response like SLE, polymyositis, primary Sjögren′s syndrome, sepsis and RA as well as hematologic malignancies and other forms of cancer go along with increased levels of serum microparticles and circulating proteasomes (Table S1). This evidence concerns the gene CRP and Sjogren syndrome.
