One earlier study in a heterogeneous RA population with median disease duration of 4 years and a large array of different anti-rheumatic treatments (including six patients only treated with MTX) suggested that successful disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug treatment results in a significant decrease in the synovial RANKL/OPG ratio probably related to the decrease in inflammation. The gene discussed is TNFRSF11B; the disease is rheumatoid arthritis.
