In a large community-based cross-sectional study of subjects with asthma, Sood et al. showed that high serum total adiponectin was associated with more frequent active disease (including more frequent use of any asthma medication) and greater number of respiratory symptoms and asthma medications among men with asthma but beneficial effects among women with asthma, with significant sex-specific interactions [49].
