In this regard, in a series of white patients with severe RA undergoing anti-TNF-α infliximab therapy, high grade inflammation showed an independent negative correlation with circulating adiponectin concentrations whereas low adiponectin levels clustered with metabolic syndrome features including dyslipidemia and high plasma glucose concentrations that reportedly contribute to atherogenesis in RA [75]. This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and metabolic syndrome.
