It is assumed that ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and E-/P-selectin take part in the causal pathway leading to atherosclerosis as selectins mediate rolling of leukocytes along the endothelium and ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 lead to adhesion and transendothelial migration of leukocytes [138,139]. This evidence concerns the gene ICAM1 and atherosclerosis.
