TF and myocardial infarction: Furthermore, in a matched, nested case–control study (252 cases and 499 controls) drawn from the Copenhagen City Heart Study and the Copenhagen General Population Study, markers of iron overload (high serum iron and transferrin saturation) were associated with reduced risk of a near-term (4 y onset) myocardial infarction; conversely there was an association between low serum iron and transferrin saturation and increased risk of a near-term myocardial infarction in this apparently healthy population (Nordestgaard et al., 2010).
