High levels of FGF21 predicted impaired glucose metabolism (OR = 2.2; 95%CI 1.3–3.6; P = 0.002), metabolic syndrome (OR = 2.6; 95%CI 1.5–4.5; P = 0.001) and T2DM (OR = 2.4; 95%CI 1.2–4.7; P = 0.01) after adjustment for age, sex and BMI [25]. This evidence concerns the gene FGF21 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
