Considering infectious mononucleosis and Crohn’s disease as model diseases associated with a predominant Th1 response and oxyuriasis, allergic nasal polyps, wound healing, and foreign body granulomas as Th2-predominant immune responses, we observed higher numbers of CD68+ macrophages in Th1-predominant diseases (median 151 cells/mm2) than in Th2-predominant conditions (median 94 cells/mm2) (P= 0.001). Here, CD68 is linked to Crohn disease.
