CXCL8 binds with similar high affinity to the G-protein-coupled receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2 [7,8] and initiates downstream signaling, such as the regulation of fibroblast growth factor 2 and androgen receptor [9,10], suggesting that CXCL8 is also implicated in the control of cellular proliferation, such as in benign prostate hyperplasia and prostate cancer. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and prostate carcinoma.
