Yoshizawa et al [22] further demonstrated that a caspase-3 inhibitor could transiently delay inherited retinal degeneration in C3H mice carrying the rd1 allele, a finding supported by a subsequent study showing that rd1/caspase-3 double mutant mice have a delay in photoreceptor loss, albeit a temporary one [19]. The gene discussed is CASP3; the disease is retinal degeneration.
