Dysregulation of certain signaling pathways, together with chromosomal abnormalities, have been identified in HNSCC [4] and more recently, TP53, CDKN2A, PIK3CA, PTEN and HRAS, together with FBXW7, NOTCH1, IRF6 and TP63, have been shown to play fundamental roles in the pathogenesis of HNSCC [5-7]. The gene discussed is IRF6; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
