The associated region on chromosome 1 from 49.9–50.5 Mb contained a single gene called ALCAM. This gene, also known as CD166 antigen, is a transmembrane receptor which has been examined extensively in human cancer research and has been implicated in leukocyte adhesion/migration and T cell activation (Hassan et al., 2004; Zimmerman et al., 2006; Cayrol et al., 2007). The gene discussed is ALCAM; the disease is cancer.
