ACHE and Alzheimer disease: The acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs) donepezil and galantamin, which are used as the first line in pharmacotherapy for mild to moderate AD [25,26], exerted an Aβ42 lowering effect in the w5c1 and s12c8 transgenic cell lines, with significantly lower levels of Aβ42 detected both in cells and in the cell culture medium, with no change in APP levels, after treatment with these drugs (Figure 6 and 7).
