AKT1 and cancer: A growing number of papers, reviewed in [74], suggest that numerous oncogenes (e.g., PI3K, activated Akt1 and antiapoptotic Bcl-2 family proteins) and oncosuppressor proteins (e.g., DAPK1, PTEN, TSC1 and TSC2, p53, Beclin 1 and UVRAG) regulate both autophagy and cancer, highlighting the strict connection between the two processes.
