SCD and cancer: Conversely, in oncogene-transformed cells and cancer cells, it was observed that abrogation of SCD1 expression/activity promoted a marked decrease in the de novo synthesis of phospholipids, including the main membrane polar lipids phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylethanolamine [17,18,21,22], confirming that SCD1 plays a critical role in the overall production of acyl-containing lipids.
