At a clinical level, a study done investigating 25 patients and 25 controls [23] showed increased concentrations of sICAM-1, sVCAM-1, P-selectin and PAI, and decreased levels of thrombomodulin in Fabry patients, thus suggesting that endothelium activation and a prothrombotic state may play a significant role in the occurrence of stroke in Fabry disease. The gene discussed is SERPINB2; the disease is Fabry disease.
