According to the recent finding, transgenic overexpression of AC5 in cardiomyocytes of mice improved their baseline cardiac function but impaired the ability of the heart to withstand stress, while a knockout of gene encoding AC5 and the pharmacological inhibitors of the enzyme, on the contrary, protected the heart against cardiac stress and cardiomyopathy induced by T2DM and obesity [109]. This evidence concerns the gene ADCY5 and cardiomyopathy.
