This SNP, originally associated with reduced tanning response in a recent GWAS [40], maps in DLGAP1, a gene involved in pathways often dysregulated in malignant melanoma including cell migration, the extracellular matrix and cytoskeleton networks [41], Interestingly, RCC2 (rs7538876) and DLGAP1 (rs9960018) are both involved in integrin signaling, which is frequently altered in metastatic melanoma [41], suggesting a possible molecular interplay in melanoma progression. This evidence concerns the gene DLGAP1 and melanoma.
