Finally, we note that GLUT3 has been implicated by altered expression in a number of diseases-including dyslexia, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and Huntingtons disease, and increased expression of glucose transporters (in particular GLUT1 and GLUT3) is also a characteristic feature of cancer cells [ Macheda et al., 2005; Yamamoto et al., 1990]. The gene discussed is SLC2A3; the disease is dyslexia.
