In an animal study, IFN-γ was associated with enhanced alveolar bone loss mediated by RANKL-expressing CD4(+) Th cell in response to A. actinomycetemcomitans during the progression of periodontal disease and a concomitant and significantly increased coexpression of IFN-γ in RANKL(+) CD4(+) Th cells [92]. This evidence concerns the gene TNFSF11 and periodontal disorder.
