In 2009 Norwood et al. studied prevalence of neuromuscular diseases in the Northern region in the UK, and found that the five largest categories of disease were DM1 (28.1%), B/DMD (~20% taken together), FSHD (10.7%), SMA(5.1%), and LGMD (6.15%)[22]. The gene discussed is DMD; the disease is facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy.
