To study which cell subset was more likely to contribute to the up-regulation of miR-4772-5p-iso in sepsis patients, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from healthy controls, sepsis patients and SIRS patients were isolated and further purified into CD14+ monocytes and CD14 depleted PBMCs (>90% CD3+ T cells). The gene discussed is CD14; the disease is systemic inflammatory response syndrome.
