IL-6 expression in the glomeruli is closely correlated with the degree of cell proliferation in the glomeruli and may regulate the mitosis of glomerular mesangial cells, promoting the proliferation of stromal hyperplasia, glomerulosclerosis and the production and release of prostaglandins, causing glomerular microvascular alterations and the increasing glomerular filtration rate (2,3,18,19). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and glomerulosclerosis.
