Starting from a public dataset of two hundred and thirty-two CRC gene expression profiles, our algorithm selected, among others, survival-related biomarkers such as AKAP12, DCBLD2, NT5E, and novel CRC-specific markers such as SPON1. We screened the candidate genes on two independent cohorts of 140 patients with primary sporadic CRC by using immunohistochemistry on Tissue MicroArrays (TMAs). Here, DCBLD2 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
