ALS is also caused by mutations in the genes encoding the DNA/RNA-binding proteins: TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP43) and fused in sarcoma/translocated in liposarcoma (FUS), the ubiquitin-like protein Ubiquilin 2 [8], angiogenin, the actin-binding protein profilin [13], valosin-containing protein (VCP) (or transitional endoplasmic reticulum ATPase), and optineurin [4, 9, 10].
