Diseases linked to the human orthologs of metazoan-specific genes include nervous system disorders (e.g., Parkinson's disease (PARK2/pdr-1, PINK1/pink-1), Alzheimer's disease (APP/apl-1; TAU/ptl-1), and torsion dystonia (TOR1A/tor-1/tor-2/ooc-5)), as well as neoplasms, loss of sensory perception, and several other diseases (Table S5). Here, TOR1A is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
