Detection of overexpression of p16INK4a (p16), a biomarker of transforming HPV infections and precancerous cervical lesions, has been shown to be an efficient tool in managing patients with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASC-US) or low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) cytology results (11–14), and for triaging HPV-positive women (15,16). This evidence concerns the gene CDKN2A and squamous cell intraepithelial neoplasia.
