Interaction of dead neutrophils with L. major-infected peritoneal macrophages isolated from BALB/c mice, led to an increase in parasite growth, a mechanism mediated by the TFG-β and PGE2 produced by macrophages; however, macrophages isolated from resistant C57BL/6 mice and co-cultured with the same dead neutrophils presented a good microbicidal activity, mediated by TNF-α, therefore controlling the infection [42].
