Importantly, high blood pressure in both genders was a very strong predictor of incident MetS, even in the presence of HOMA-IR or baseline insulin as well as general and central obesity, suggesting that etiology of hypertension among Iranian populations is more closely related to insulin resistance than in some other populations [6,44] and those who are insulin resistant would be expected to have other components of MetS. This evidence concerns the gene INS and metabolic syndrome.
