Studies using cell lines indicated that BCR–ABL activity contributes to a number of characteristics observed in CML such as apoptosis inhibition, disorganization of the cytoskeleton, decreased cellular adhesion, decreased cellular differentiation, etc. However, it must be taken into account that K562 represents a CML cell in blast crisis. This evidence concerns the gene ABL1 and chronic myelogenous leukemia, BCR-ABL1 positive.
