It has been suggested that galectin-3 mediated clustering of NG2/CSPG4 and α3β1 leads to enhanced α3β1 signaling (167) and the promotion of melanoma invasion and migration through laminin containing extracellular matrices, because α3β1 selectively binds laminin and galectin-3 binds oligosaccharides on laminin.
