The main observations are our study are: (a) it confirms that cirrhosis is associated with lower hepatic CYP3A activity as well as protein concentration; (b) some miRNAs are associated with lowered hepatic CYP3A activity in cirrhosis; and (c) the expression of CYP3A4 mRNA as well as a number of nuclear receptors (PXR, CAR and PPARα) known to regulate CYP3A expression is higher in cirrhosis.
