Since niclosamide not only potently blocks erlotinib-induced STAT3 phosphorylation but also synergizes with erlotinib against head and neck cancer in vitro and in vivo (Figures 4 and 5), we propose that erlotinib in combination with niclosamide has great potential to be developed as a new and more effective therapeutic approach for improving prognosis of head and neck cancer. The gene discussed is STAT3; the disease is head and neck cancer.
