INS and diabetes mellitus: At study entry, the 940 patients eligible for the present study did not differ significantly from the 194 remaining type 2 FDS participants not taking insulin in body mass index (BMI) (29.5±5.4 vs 30.1±6.0 kg/m2; P = 0.18), gender (49.0% vs 47.4% males; P = 0.69), diabetes duration (3.0 [0.8–6.0] vs 4.0 [1.0–7.0] years; P = 0.16) or HbA1c (7.3 [6.3–8.6] vs 7.3 [6.4–8.5]% or 56 [45–70] vs 56 [46–69] mmol/mol; P = 0.91), but were significantly younger in age (63.4±11.6 vs 65.3±10.9 years; P = 0.032).
