INS and Hypoglycemia: The weight gain associated with intensive therapy and improvement in glycemic control has been attributed to multiple factors, such as the anabolic effect of insulin itself, reduction of glycosuria (conservation of glucose calories previously excreted by the kidneys), reduced catabolism rate, appetite increase, hypoglycemia therapy, and defensive feeding to prevent hypoglycemia or simply due to the fear of hypoglycemia [64,66,67].
