The Ca2+-activated Cl− channel TMEM16A (ANO-1) is overexpressed in many carcinomas, including human prostate carcinoma (Liu et al., 2012) and head and neck squamous cell carcinomas, where it induces stimulation of ERK1/2 and contributes to cell proliferation (Duvvuri et al., 2012).
