REG1A, a protein that is highly similar to REG1B has been implicated in pancreatitis, and other REG family members such as REGIV and hepatocarcinoma-intestine-pancreas/pancreatitis associated protein I (HIP/PAPI) have shown potential diagnostic utility for pancreatic cancer [26,27]. This evidence concerns the gene REG1B and familial pancreatic carcinoma.
